MULTI Disciplinary Consultants (P) Ltd. has long experiences of providing consultancy services in diverse fields of development activities in different parts of the country. During the course, MULTI was faced with a multitude of problems at the various levels of the projects e.g. policy formulation, planning, water quality analysis, design and project implementation including providing management and advisory services for a variety of infrastructural and development projects to various national and international agencies.
Thus the Consultant has carried the valuable experience and clear understanding of the importance of a co-ordinated approach towards project implementation including prioritisation, optimisation, co-ordination, strict quality control, review of the design concept and approach vis-a-vis their suitability in the given set of physical/social conditions. Similarly, the Consultant have gained the necessary knowledge about the importance of rehabilitation of existing water supply and sanitation system as well as formulating appropriate operational policies and timely review/updating including modification so as to attain the envisaged output.

Major projects undertaken by MULTI:

Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Project (Project Implementation Assistance), DWSS/ADBM, 2001-2007

His Majesty’s Government of Nepal is planning to implement Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Project (STWSSSP) in order to improve health and quality of life of the people living in the small towns by constructing new and / or rehabilitating and upgrading the existing water supply system, drainage and sanitation facilities, and providing health and hygiene education program in about 40-50 towns in the country under the financial support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

  • The STWSSSP consists of the following components.
  • Public Awareness Campaign and Health and Hygiene Education Programs
  • Water Supply and Public Sanitation
  • Technical Support to water Users and Sanitation Committees
  • Project Implementation Assistance

ULTI is involved for the Project Implementation Assistance Component of the STWSSSP. The component included technical support for town project feasibility studies, supervision of engineering works carried out by engineering design consultants, and NGOs, and technical support to WUSCs. It also consists of assisting in construction supervision works. The component also includes assistance in preparation of health and hygiene education programmes, conduction of training, and public awareness campaign to focus groups.

Fourth Water Supply and Sanitation Project/Project Management Services, DWSS/ADBM, 1993-2002

The Project is financed by Asian Development Bank to improve water supply and sanitation to rural areas of Eastern, Mid-western and Far Western Development region of the country to fulfill the Eight Five Year Plan target. This project aims at involving the beneficiary groups from the project conception to construction, operation and maintenance. The project is divided into management services, community aspect and design Packages. The present study covers the management aspect of the project.

The detailed description of actual services provided by MULTI is as follows:

  • Project planning, staffing and financial plan preparation.
  • Review feasibility study; prepare sub-project appraisal and selection of sub-projects.
  • Supervision of sub-project design undertaken by design consultants
  • Advise on construction material and quality control management, pre-construction contract management, construction and post construction management, institutions development, staff training and Bank disbursement schedule preparation.
  • Reporting to ADB on project activities.

Third Water Supply and Sanitation Project/Project Preparation Studies, DWSS/ADBM, 1991

The work involved assessment and updating of over 100 rural and semi-urban water supply schemes and formulation of sanitation programs. It included review of the quality of sub-project preparation, review of the practice of management and storage of materials, review of the implementation performances, preparation of suitable implementation programs and financing arrangements, preparation of project appraisal procedures for prioritisation for funding the project implementation. Reporting included the assessment of the requirements for additional studies for different projects under implementation, classification of the projects into groups and their prioritisation for implementation. The present work is one of the recommendation of the above said project findings

Project Preparation for Rural Water Supply Project in Central and Western Development Region, World Bank/DWSS, 1990

The work included appraisal and field verification of 100 rural water supply schemes, updating the design and cost of the scheme, developing criteria for prioritisation of projects and project implementation. The work was undertaken in association with Binnie and Partners, U.K. and Nepal Consult (P) Ltd.
